The Fruits of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
When we are a Christian, a true believer, and the Holy Spirit dwells within us, we will never have to tell anyone who we are, for they will see it in us; for the fruits of the spirit will be activated in us as well as through us. People will see it in the way we live. Today we often feel we are nobody in the Lord without a title, to go before our name; well I have news for you…a title does not define who we truly are in the Lord.
What does define us is how we live, are we exemplifying the fruits of the Spirit in our everyday lives. I once read a quote posted by a friend of mine which read, “The greatest compliment a person can give you is when they tell you they can see Christ in you.” I thought that was such a powerful statement, but this is basically what it comes down to…Can others see the Christ in us. Examining the fruits of the Spirit, we should ask ourselves, “do I love or show love, do I have joy, do I have peace, am I longsuffering, do I respond or react in gentleness, do I radiate goodness, Do I really have faith as a grain of a mustard seed, am I meek, and do I exhibit good temperance? These are the characteristics of a person who has the Holy Spirit and these are the distinctiveness that we should always display.
It is easy to profess to be something/someone, but are we really examining ourselves daily to do our best to allow the uniqueness of the Holy Spirit to truly guide us in all our ways. We do this by surrendering ourselves to the Holy Spirit completely. My prayer today is Lord cause us to submit ourselves wholly to the Holy Spirit so that we can truly be an example of your goodness. May we never have to profess who we are in you by either title or words, but instead let in show by the life that we live in the likeness of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name, amen!
